Purplebricks has notified an employment authority in California that it is to close its office there by September 13.
Altogether, over 110 jobs will be lost by the date of closure – 55 employees plus 68 independent sales agents.
Purplebricks told the California Employment Development Department that its offices on Spectrum Centre Drive in Irvine will shut.
Purplebricks announced its launch in the US in June 2017, choosing California as its first state.
It then rolled out to several others, including New York.
However, earlier this month Purplebricks announced it was withdrawing from the US, and that while there is a “significant” opportunity to disrupt the market, “it would take substantially more management time and resources” than it could commit.
The company is expected to close all its American and Australian operations by the end of this year.
Layoffs announced in Irvine as online real estate firm Purplebricks leaves U.S.
The big guys get their payouts for a “shrewd business decision” and 100 little guys lose their jobs.
Never a nice way to wake up on Monday morning.

They lived the American Dream, until the money ran out!
That American slang term….. “Wise Guy/s” ……they actually were, because they saw through the Purplebricks flim/flam.

The arrogance of it all .Shoehorning in staff like Emily Egerton to be Regional Director in California teaching them all what they should now about USA real estate .A former LPE from Shrewsbury with limited experience. Sure she is v. good and no disrespect but she was a PA in a local hotel in 2013

Only an arsehole would write a comment like this about somebody they don’t know.
Disgraceful. Grown folk who use PIE as their outlet for ******** and gossip.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable comment to me. 100% factual – apart from the bit giving the benefit of doubt, which is pure supposition (and, no doubt, a bit of blind hope for all those being ‘led’ by someone with such limited experience of both the profession in general AND the profession on a different continent to where she gained her own grounding.
Yours, on the other hand…

WellI I guess the proof is in the pudding. It hasnt worked well on 2 continents Similar arrogant policy of shipping over staff with limited property experience to Oz (no personal reflection on the individuals of course) to teach the locals all they know about selling property in their backyard
Which bit about closing 2 operations costing millions don’t you understand?
It hasnt ‘t worked out well .Maybe it does on the moon !
