Property118 tax avoidance scheme subject to HMRC stop notice

“For those following the saga of landlord tax avoidance firm Property118, HMRC has now issued a “stop notice”, which makes it a criminal offence for Property118 to continue to promote their tax avoidance scheme.”

The founder of Tax Policy Associates Ltd, Dan Neidle, posted this message on X, formerly know as Twitter, over the weekend. It relates to the following:

Mark Alexander, founder of Property118, says that his firm, which describes as a ‘lifeline for countless landlords’, is under attack, and is now seeking donations to launch a legal challenge against HMRC.

He published the following statement on his platform last week:

“Unjustified targeting of our business model threatens to leave landlords in the cold and erodes trust in the property industry.

“We need your urgent support to fight back.

“Property118 has been accused of promoting tax avoidance schemes, a claim we vehemently deny. HMRC’s follow-up actions have created a climate of fear and uncertainty, hindering our ability to serve landlords and protect their interests.

“Despite overwhelming evidence supporting our position, HMRC has resorted to delaying tactics and procedural manoeuvres to drain our resources and prolong this battle. Their actions are not only unjust but also a blatant disregard for the interests of thousands of landlords who rely on our services.

“Your donation will be a game-changer. It will help us:

“Cover crippling legal costs
“Maintain essential services for landlords
“Expose HMRC’s unfair practices
“Secure a fair outcome for the entire landlord community

“By standing with us, you’re not just supporting a business; you’re defending the rights of landlords everywhere.

“Join the fight for fairness. Donate now and help us level the playing field.”
