Property deals face no further delays after cyber incident is resolved

Property deals in Scotland no longer face delays after a cyber security issue at the country’s insolvency service was fixed.

Property transactions requiring a search via the Register of Insolvencies were adversely affected by the IT failure that started late last week, causing delays to property deals across the the country.

Accountant in Bankruptcy, which runs the register, suspended its search service while it dealt with the issue.

But agents and conveyancers attempting to complete deals can now press ahead after the issue was resolved yesterday.

Accountant in Bankruptcy said: “The Scottish Register of Insolvencies is now available and normal service has been restored successfully.

“Today’s download is available via the ROI for subscribers.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this issue has caused. ”

The outage no doubt caused description for agents, buyers and sellers trying to finalise property transactions before Christmas.

“A number of solicitors have been in contact with us seeking advice on this issue,” said Diane McGiffen, CEO at the Law Society of Scotland. “We’re advising them to contact all clients who have upcoming settlements as soon as possible to let them know about the potential impact.”
