Property auction sales a hit – but with strong regional variation

The latest sales figures from the property auction sector show that overall, there was very little change in activity levels in September compared with the previous quarter, as well as the corresponding month last year.

According to Essential Information Group, which provided the data, there was a marginal dip in the residential sector in terms of percent sold and amount raised (4.5% & 6.8% respectively), whilst the commercial sector saw all four metrics in positive territory with the amount raised up 14% to £175.8m.

Looking at the market over the last quarter, there were slight falls in the residential sector but notable increases in the commercial sector, including a 19% increase in the total raised and gains of 6.1% and 7.2% in lots offered and lots sold respectively.

“It will be interesting to see how the numbers for October fare given the political turmoil we have just been through,” said David Sandeman, head of EIG, which maintains a database of virtually every property coming up for sale at auction as well as almost 900,000 lots that have been to auction in the past.
