Pressure grows for Scotland to set up its own estate agency regulator

Pressure is growing for Scotland to have its own regulator of estate agents, removing responsibility from Powys Council in Wales.

Powys has run the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team which covers the whole UK since April 2014.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon has said in the Scottish Parliament that she agrees that the power to regulate agents should be devolved.

Agents are also backing a switch of powers to Holyrood.

Stuart Wylie, of Glasgow agent Walker Wylie, said: “Having one of Scotland’s most valuable and important industries regulated by a Welsh council is beyond parody.”
