Picture of the Week number 1: A snapshot of today’s housing market

Thanks to the clever use of mirrors, this “gorgeous first floor studio flat” looks bigger than it is.

Furthermore, at £600,000, it’s the cheapest home in Knightsbridge currently listed on Rightmove. There are cheaper properties, but they are garages.

For sale through Foxtons, this home is actually smaller than most garages.

It has a studio room measuring 10ft 10in by 7ft 1in, and the whole thing is 113 sq ft, or 10.5 sq m.

The really scary thing is that Stamp Duty Land Tax will add another £20,000 to the price tag.

But if it were to be bought after next April 1 by an investor or someone wanting a pied-a-terre, that Stamp Duty bill would soar to £38,000.

The flat has previously been available to rent short-term at £895 per week.

It’s cheaper to own that flat than paying to stay in a  hotel room of the same size 3 or 4 nights a week. Ideal for someone with a short career in London, Lib Dem MP?
