The sister of an estate agent who died of cancer at the age of 34 in July has launched a campaign in her memory.
This week Emma Poole started an e-petition to lower the age of screening for cervical cancer.
She is aiming to get 100,000 signatures, which would spark a debate in Parliament.
Natalie Poole, who worked for agents Entwistle Green, made 20 visits to doctors but was denied tests, until she was suddenly given two months to live.
In fact, the single mother survived a year, during which she raised £17,000 for The Christie, a specialist cancer hospital, and Jo’s Cervical Trust, which supports sufferers and their families.
She also used the time to campaign for women to get their smear tests.
Her sister wants the age for screening to be lowered from 25 to 17.
In Natalie’s case, she was diagnosed two years after a clear smear test because the tumour was hidden.
On her death, The Christie described her as “truly inspirational” and said she had been a wonderful fundraiser for its charity.
Staff at Entwistle Green have raised money for Jo’s Trust. The 48-branch agency, which operates across Merseyside and Lancashire, is also donating 25p for every listing this year.
