Petition launches against sale of Land Registry

A petition aimed at preventing the sale of the Land Registry into private hands has been launched.

By yesterday evening it had attracted over 146,000 signatures.

It has been launched on the 38 Degrees petitions website and is objecting to the sale of the “profitable public service”.

It says the sale is a “short-sighted move to make a quick buck” and that it is time to stop “flogging our valuable public services to profit-hungry companies”.

It warns that a new owner would either hike prices or reduce standards.

The petition concludes: “The Land Registry is a public service that is self-funding and is not a drain on public finance.

“There’s no need to sell it off to the highest bidder.”

We have a highly professional Land Registry which deals with a great deal of private and personal information. I object to this being passed into the hands of some money making company who will treat it as a cash cow and may disclose private information for a charge.  Conservatives the party of ASSET STRIPPERS
