For those of you who cannot get enough of the online versus traditional agent debate, there is now a video available of the much-billed “fight” at the recent Prop Tech conference.
In fact, it’s all rather tame stuff – but with the odd curiosity.
Russell Quirk spends his time doing a lot of writing (why – writing to LSL or Connells offering his firm for sale?)
Alex Bailes, who departed from Countrywide only days later although he seems to have had no indication of that at the time, says that pure online-only agents have no future.
It is, apparently, all about the hybrid model.
Chris Wood, of PDQ Estates, and Michael Bruce, of Purplebricks, put their arguments – the latter explaining why his firm has chosen not to be purely digital.
Wood gives an excellent explanation as to why local micro-knowledge is so important.
But he also adds that one-third of all estate agents should be shut down, and entry standards should be raised.
The convener, by the way, is Paula Higgins, of the Home Owners Alliance.
We don’t wish to be lightweight but it does occur to us – how many estate agents wear ties these days?
The “official” version is here:
Alternatively, you might like to try this somewhat “enhanced” version:

This debate is now well and truly put to bed. “Online v offline” is both too simplistic and polarising a tag for what is happening in the market – its just a question of where the two ends of the spectrum will meet to the consumer’s greatest satisfaction.
OTM will be an irrelevance to that convergence by the way
