Online agent vanishes from Rightmove while membership is ‘re-vetted’

An online estate agent’s presence on Rightmove vanished on Friday.

Rightmove would not comment other than to say that the membership of Coppenwall is “currently being re-vetted”.

At the weekend Coppenwall’s own site was displaying a new feature called List it Yourself,

Costing £99, it says: “We provide you with a platform to list your property on Rightmove, social media and marketing channels, subject to relevant checks and a home visit.”

The website further explains, under the headline Power to the People: “We’ve heard many people say they could sell their property themselves if only they could get on the right selling platforms. Our List it Yourself package enables you to do just that. List with us and we’ll get you on Rightmove . . .”

Interested sellers are told to send in an initial enquiry “and Coppenwall will send you a link to our List it Yourself app”.

Coppenwall also offers a completely free sales package, involving an auction where buyers pay a non-refundable fee; and a full package for £750, where Coppenwall does everything from valuation to completion.

The firm, which is based in Rossendale, Lancashire, is registered with The Property Ombudsman.

Some people might want to have a read of the post that “coppenwall60” dumped on The Arena last week.

    propertyindustryeye.com/forums/topic/will-online-agents-gain-significant-market-share-foreseeable-future/page/2/#post-57577

I responded with a point or two – but left the best bits out.

ANOTHER one to watch IF, rather than WHEN, it resurfaces…

    “Online agent vanishes from Rightmove”
That’s what you call magic 😉

This is why rightmove are annoying. Honest agents have to pay £1000 per office if they want to do a real job and expand. Onliners get a better deal while offering no service.

    BL00DY H£LL!

According to their woeful website, the “List it Yourself” deal that last week was £99 has skyrocketed to £399 today!!

They now claim that “Once everything has been tweaked, checked, a home visit has been made and you have made payment, we will send you a mock up property listing for you to sign off.”

Just for clarification – THAT’S THREE HUNDRED QUID FOR THIS ALLEGED “HOME VISIT”

Beggars belief – but shows the animal for what it is…

On their website’s FAQs for “List & sell your own home”, ‘Coppenwall’ state

“Rightmove do not allow the public to list privately, you have to be a qualified estate agent to list.”

Could ‘Coppenwall’ please confirm precisely what their “qualifications” are, here on EYE?

A quick bit of internet digging will tell you all you need to know. And it won’t include much Agency experience or qualification.

Their website says ‘We’re a passionate bunch of skilled people with lots of fresh, game changing ideas.’ ‘Our goal is to completely change the way people buy and sell houses.’

    Good luck with that.

What’s the difference between this and OPEN RENT?  Rightmove violates its own terms of use, by allowing an agency who doesn’t visit its own properties – which is the only requirement based on our account manager.

Until when will Lettings Agencies allow Rightmove to treat them this way, by allowing players who don’t play by the same rules to compete with us?

Personally I don’t blame whoever runs Coppenwall for taking advantage of Rightmove’s ineffectual vetting process (if they actually have one).  The blame lies solely and entirely with Rightmove for allowing them to do so.

Good luck to Coppenwall is what I say.  Had a look at the website (no worse than many of the estate agency sites I’ve visited btw) and it seems pretty clear to me what they offer (not a lot) but it’s up to the consumer to decide.

As I say the bad guys here are Rightmove, not those trying to take advantage of their laxity.

I’ve been in the industry for almost 30 years, seen and done it all (including surviving a tenant fee ban here in Scotland) and my message to all you traditional estates is……don’t be bitter, just get better

    ciao

They are now (as of 28 May, apparently) advertising on Zoopla.

Their marketing blurb however is still factually incorrect in stating a Rightmove listing is part (or should that be all) of the package and they are incorrectly displaying the Rightmove logo.
