‘One other portal’ rule will be largely policed by other agents

One possible problem for OnTheMarket and its agents this morning is that properties might still be appearing on Rightmove and/or Zoopla.

By last Friday afternoon’s press conference, it was said that properties were still on other portals, despite agents ending their contracts under the “one other portal” rule.

OTM boss Ian Springett said: “We will only know on Monday and through the week, what the situation is.”

Asked how OTM will police the “one other portal” rule, Springett said that regional teams would keep an eye out, but that he expected it to be largely self-policing.

In addition, he said, there would be a “data driven solution”.

Good luck with that! I've already noticed an Estate Agent in the area that is now advertised on Rightmove, Zoopla and Conthemarket. Sorry, I mean Onthemarket! What 1 other portal rule?

Every AM agent in my town is still showing on RM and Z. Over a year to plan it all out, the big launch day comes … and they are still dancing with the enemy. What a joke.

What a joke! I've just emailed them to explain! I think this is a perfect example that they have no idea as to what they're doing. Backwards thinking Estate Agents and technology, clearly just don't mix.

So not just offering the public a disservice, now conning the agents that have subscribed to it as well!

Very sad if member agents don't follow the rules they've agreed to. Integrity will be an important ingredient for the success of OTM.

i am sure they said agents would not be listed until they complied with the rules, they have to be transparent to stand any chance

I still think that Houser is some sort of internet hoax that I am not in on, but… We have just been emailed by"www.findahood.com" to tell us that they have listed our properties on their site!!! Loving THEIR disclaimer "You may download, store and use the material for your own personal use and research. I wish some of the moaners would sod off. Even though I gave RM our 1 months notice on Christmas Eve, apparently ito doesn't quite work like that in RM land. Even though I had been told verbally by a RM rep that we just needed to give 1 months notice, apparently any notice doesn't become effective till the 1st of the following month. Why didn't the original rep tell me that then! Anyway, up until the 1st February my properties will still appear on RM and Z and OTM. I have no intention of ******** anybody (certainly agents in West Wales work as a team) but I refuse to get stressed over a couple of days. Sure, I could get worked up about it and take days shooting off e-mails and letters, but life is complicated enough as it is.

Whilst I appreciate it will be a pain in the rear to do, but why don't you just mark all properties as invisible? That way you won't have any listed on RM. Or are AM saying that you can't be registered with more than one portal? Just asking, before anyone comes on here to flame.

Excellent point Jon; I must admit I hadn't thought of it. I have tried logging in to Rightmove plus but apparently I now need to "register my computer" to gain access. Strange as I've always accessed it fine hundreds of times before. Anyway, my RM listings will die a natural death next Sunday. I assume RM have got the hump because they've been given notice.

"Register your computer". Yes, sounds very strange. Wonder what the small print would say if you registered? Probably signing up to a new contract. And they wonder why no-one likes them!!!

Is anyone able to confirm what exactly constitutes "1 other portal"? Our local newspaper site currently lists ours and many other agents properties. The site is part of a national network of newspaper sites (owned by Newsquest). OTM have told us that it does constitute a portal (we are not OTM as yet), whereas the newspaper says it has checked with OTM and they do not have an issue. Who should I believe?

I would believe OTM before I believe anything a newspaper rep tells me.
