Advertised rents in Scotland jumped almost 8% last year and at one point reached an all-time high.
In the third quarter they stood at £736 a month, before finishing the year at £732 – up 7.9% since the start of 2014.
The biggest rises were in Edinburgh (9.5%), Glasgow (9.4%) and Aberdeen (8%).
The figures are from property portal Citylets, whose managing director Thomas Ashdown said: “At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Scotland needs more homes built and fast – across all tenures.
“There is nothing new on that subject that can be said: we just need action now.”
Nothing to do with abolishing letting agent fees to tenants then?

And this is what is likely to happen if Labour get their way and abolish letting agents fees….

This only relates to the three major cities in Scotland due to lack of supply…..outside these areas rents have been stagnant or declined. It should also be noted that the article refers to advertised not actual rents achieved. We have experienced no adverse reactions from landlords relating to the paying of nominal referencing fees which, from an average tenancy lasting 18 mths, equates to less than £3.50/mth To recover this cost based on an average rent of £732 Landlord would only require a o.47% increase in rent!!!
The reported increases have nothing to do with abolishing fees paid by tenants.
