Rents for newly let properties rose 4.5% in the first quarter of this year, to £853 per month, Countrywide has said.

However, rents for renewed and occupied tenancies have remained stable.

The average UK rent for renewed tenancies in March was £848 and the average rent for all occupied rental properties £840.
