New rental prices rise by up to 18% in a year

New rents ended last year at £739 on average.

The figure, released by tenancy referencing firm HomeLet this morning, excludes London where new rents ended on an average of £1,532.

The figures compare with £704 and £1,410 a year earlier.

The sharpest rises, of 18%, were in Brighton and Bristol, followed by Edinburgh and Newcastle at 16%.
