A website appears to have launched called On The Market Direct.
While all but invisible via Google, the timing could be seen as an attempted spoiler ahead of Monday’s launch of the real thing.
The site claims to advise on private sales and to offer a comparison of agents.
However, the very few agents listed on it are all online or hybrid agents – and even they might not be too pleased with their “recommendations”.
Of Purplebricks, for example, it says: “Use them if you want to sell to nightclub workers or insomniacs”.
Of Hatched it says: “As they don’t conduct viewings but do charge commission, it’s hard to get excited about this concept.”
About eMoov it says: “Use it if you want to get on Rightmove and Zoopla without paying agents’ commission.”
It says: “If you want to buy, sell or rent a property, On the Market Direct provides expert advice.
“Learn how to manage your property investments yourself and save yourself thousands in letting agents’ and estate agents’ fees and commissions.”
The site gives no information as to its address, company registration, or any contact details.
Agents’ Mutual had gone to lengths to ensure that it had acquired all possible domain names for OnTheMarket.
Last night, Agents’ Mutual declined to comment.
However, it is thought that it will go after any sites that it believes are passing off.
