Mystery over firm calling agents and saying it is doing research for OTM

A mystery firm is phoning agents, claiming to be doing market research for OnTheMarket.

The research is apparently still ongoing and comes at a time when OTM is focused on trying to build membership numbers.

When some agents have challenged whether the research is in fact on behalf of OTM, they have been told that it is for an organisation whose identity is confidential.

OTM boss Ian Springett has written to members, saying:

“Several agents have received phone calls from people claiming to be market researchers for OnTheMarket.com and wanting to collect information about us.

“I am writing to let you know that we have not commissioned any market research company to make any such calls to our members.

“Please treat any callers of this type with all due caution. We will give prior notification if we do undertake market research.”

I wish I had  Ian’s eloquence and way with words.

“Please treat any callers of this type with all due caution. We will give prior notification if we do undertake market research.”

That sounds so much more professional than, “If you get one of these call tell them to go attempt asexual reproduction”

I wish I was as eloquent as you Robert, you have used 12 more words than I would.

Seriously though Id disagree with Springett. It doesn’t matter who rings up or who you are talking to, if you want OTM to have half a chance you should be singing its praises to all and sundry.

If whoever it is carrying out this research publishes it and there are 4900 ‘no comments’ and 100 having a pop, we know which ones will make the headlines.

      Cheers, you made me laugh!

I hope someone thought to do a 1471 and trace the callers ID

Perhaps it’s someone who has given up on getting any objectively measurable statistics about OTM’s current position from Mr S himself?

I’ve had one of these calls and when I asked who had commissioned the research the berk told me it was his manager. We then played out a little dance with me trying to extract who had asked his manager to ask for the research to be done before he finally told me it was someone anonymous.  I told him I wouldn’t be taking part if I didn’t know who the information was being supplied to. The call ended, somewhat abruptly!

Same here today. I flipped it and told him I was genuinely grateful for the timing of his call as I am doing a survey about the sex lives of twenty to thirty year olds. For some reason he hung up…
