MPs briefed on getting institutional investors into private rented sector

A new briefing paper has been placed in the House of Commons library on the private rented sector.

It specifically looks at how more private rented homes can be built, using institutional money.

Institutional investors have called for measures to increase the attractiveness of building in the sector, including a reduction in the requirement to provide affordable housing.

While the Government has been focusing on institutional investment, with a £1bn Build to Rent fund plus other measures, most private rented stock is still owned by individual buy-to-let landlords.
