Well-known industry figure Michael Day of Integra Property Services has successfully completed the one million step challenge for Diabetes UK with 14 days to spare.
The challenge involved walking one million steps and required an average of 10,870 steps every day for the planned 92 days involved in July, August and September.
Michael actually successfully averaged 13,000 steps a day this year and has completed around 500 miles, the equivalent of walking (as the crow flies) from London to Lichenstein!
This is the second successive year Michael has completed the one million step challenge.
Michael, who has been a type one diabetic for over 35 years, was motivated to take part both as a personal challenge, a plan to get fitter and, crucially, to raise awareness and money to support Diabetes UK and the work they undertake in helping the near 5 million people in the UK who have diabetes.
Whilst reasonably well controlled, Michael’s diabetes was undoubtedly a contributory factor to him requiring a triple heart bypass in December 2021.
Michael said: “I am delighted to have reached one million steps within my target timeframe and would like to thank all those that have supported my efforts both through their encouragement and financial donations to the cause. To date I have raised a little over £2000 (£5500 over the two years) which has exceeded my initial target and it would be great to still add to that total in the coming weeks.
“As well as the support from many individual friends and businesses across the industry, I am most grateful for the support of the Agents Giving charity who provided significant grant support in both years.
“I am taking a few days holiday now but will still be adding to my steps total and I am signed up for the ten-mile London Bridges walk on September 29th in aid of Diabetes UK which will sign off this year’s challenge in style.”
