Tenants in Scotland’s main cities favour independence, according to 500 polled by Scottish portal Citylets, which released the results this morning.
Almost six in ten tenants (58%) say they will be voting in favour of independence.
Support for independence amongst tenants varies between regions, with Glasgow and Aberdeen identified as most likely to make a Yes vote at 65% each, and Edinburgh the least likely at 55%.
The survey also reveals that over 80% of renters would like to own their own home.
Around two-thirds of those voting Yes believe their prospects of home ownership would be better.
Thomas Ashdown, Citylets managing director, said: “This survey suggests support for independence amongst renters is higher than average.
“This could be attributable to two main factors.
“First, the private rental sector has a young demographic profile which has an above-average support for independence.
“Second, the overwhelming majority of renters would ideally like to own their property and the majority of Yes voters seem to believe independence will help them get onto the property ladder.”
There are over 300,000 Scottish households in the private rented sector with numbers doubling between the 2001 and 2011 census.
Tenants’ confident views on independence comes as a contrast to buyers’ jitters.
The Scottish property sales market has stalled ahead of next Thursday’s vote.
The top end of the market has been particularly affected, but there are also concerns that any change of currency could affect mortgage rates.
