Those working at Caldwells in Lymington had a fortunate escape after a car ploughed into the front of the firm’s high street office yesterday.
Emergency crews were dispatched to High Street where a Honda Jazz had struck Caldwells shortly after 2.30pm on Monday afternoon.
The Honda Jazz’s driver suffered minor injuries and no one else was hurt after it ploughed into the front of Caldwells estate agents.
The driver, a man in his 70s, escaped with minor injuries, while the car is thought to be a write-off.
Two of the premises’ front windows were cracked and slight damage caused to the rendering.
Jeremy Caldwell, who co-owns the independent business which has operated for 26 years with his brother Julian, and his secretary were the only two people in the building when the collision happened.
He told the press: “The whole building shook, and we saw the car bounce back onto its tyres after hitting the wall.
“We rushed out to check on the guy in the car and as there was smoke coming from it, we got prepared with fire extinguishers in case it caught fire.
“The driver luckily seemed to have just a cut lip – the benefits of modern cars.”
“It was lucky no one was looking in the window when it happened, as they would have had their legs chopped off,” he added.
Relieved to see no-one badly hurt. Over recent years PIE has reported several such incidents begging the question “why do estate agents’ offices get hit so often ?” The number of such incidents seems disproportionate by comparison to other premises getting hit.
