Lords committee continues with inquiry into regulation of agents

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will continue its short inquiry into the regulation of property agents by hearing from property agent representatives, National Trading Standards and The Property Ombudsman, today.

The inquiry, which is being chaired by Baroness Taylor of Bolton, aims to examine the current approach to regulation of property agents in the residential sector, and in particular whether there should be a new industry regulator.

The committee hearing from today hear from property agent representatives and redress schemes.

The session will run from 10.30am tomorrow and can be followed live on Parliament TV .

Giving evidence at 10:30 will be:

  • Andrew Bulmer,
    CEO, the Property Institute;
  • Luay al-Khatib,
    Director of Knowledge and Practice, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors;
  • Timothy Douglas,
    Head of Policy and Campaigns, Propertymark.


Giving evidence at 11:30 will be:

  • Martin Boyd,
    Chair, Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE);
  • Allison Farrar,
    Operations Manager – National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team, National Trading Standards;
  • Rebecca Marsh,
    Ombudsman and Chief Executive, The Property Ombudsman.
