Camden Council has been successful in gaining additional powers to control the “blight” of estate agent boards across the borough.
As of 10th July, estate agent boards cannot be displayed in conservation areas and all the borough’s town centres unless advertisement consent is obtained.
A regulation which prohibited the display of estate agent boards was in place across six of the borough’s conservation areas (Hampstead, South Hill Park, South Hampstead, Belsize Park, Fitzjohn/Netherhall and Redington/Frognal conservation areas) and a section of West End Lane, NW6.
The new regulation significantly extends the controls to cover all conservation areas and local town centres.
Councillor Danny Beales, Cabinet Member for Investing in Communities and an Inclusive Economy, said:
“We are delighted that we have been successful in gaining additional powers to restrict estate agent boards which are often eyesores, adding unnecessary clutter to our streets.
“Across the borough there are examples of estate agents disregarding the regulations, displaying numerous boards per building and keeping them up for months, if not years, despite properties being sold or let.
“The proposals were supported by the vast majority who responded to our consultation.
“The removal of these boards has previously taken up valuable Council resources and I look forward to these additional controls having a positive impact on streets across the borough.”
Good to see that even advances in technology havent changed the old board wars! I remember as a junior negotiator in London we kept an array of the competitors boards for false advertising campaigns…….
