Lettings firm ‘shuts down amid allegations over missing deposits’

A lettings firm is said to have shut down owing thousands of pounds in unpaid rents and holding deposits.

Evictions firm Landlord Actions said last night that it had been instructed to recover more than £10,000 for one landlord, and £8,000 for another, but said that more cases are coming to light on a daily basis.

It named the London agent, saying the case was ongoing and will be revealed in Channel Five ‘Nightmare Tenants Slum Landlords’ programme next spring.

It said that there are signs the company has ceased to trade.

Landlord Action has cited a specific case where the landlord claims that the tenant living in their property was not the person who signed the tenancy agreement. It says that  new tenant claimed they had passed rent to the agent. Landlord Action says the property was viewed by new prospective tenants as recently as August 19, with those tenants paying a total of £4,420 in a six-week deposit and one month rent in advance.

Landlord Action says that the landlord in the case has been unable to contact the agent.
