Letting agents offered guaranteed income under new utility-switching scheme

One Utility Bill has introduced a new referral commission model for letting agents that pays on qualifying tenant move-ins, regardless of whether the tenant switches utility supplier.

The scheme differs from many utility referral arrangements, where commission is typically only paid if a tenant goes on to complete a supplier switch after moving into a property.

Under the company’s Notify by One Utility Bill platform, agents notify the firm when a new tenancy begins and receive commission on qualifying referrals. One Utility Bill then manages the utility registration process with the tenant.

The company says agencies using integrated CRM systems can automate referrals through their existing tenancy workflows.

According to One Utility Bill, an agency completing around 50 lets a month could generate more than £10,000 a year in commission income through the platform.

The launch comes as many letting agents continue to look for additional revenue streams amid rising operating costs and increasing regulatory requirements across the private rented sector.

Paul Neary, head of partnerships at One Utility Bill, said: “Letting agents are under more pressure than ever, balancing increasing operational costs, compliance legislation, occupancy, renewals and tenant expectations, often with limited time and resources.

“That’s exactly why we’ve built the Notify commission model differently. We believe agents should be rewarded early in the process. You earn commission on every qualified move-in you refer, without being forced into void switching dependencies or complicated conditions to unlock your payout.

“We’re committed to building long-term partnerships with agents based on transparency, consistency, and genuine value, giving you the confidence that every referred move-in delivers guaranteed commission.”
