The Labour party has produced a ‘green paper’ on energy efficiency.
Proposals in the ‘An End to Cold Homes’ consultation include:
• Providing personalised home energy reports for half a million homes a year.
• Delivering free energy efficiency home improvements to at least 200,000 low-income households a year.
• Offering up to a million loans for home improvements that are interest-free in the next Parliament, for households that are able to help meet the costs.
• Setting a new EPC target of C for all private rental properties by 2027.
The consultation runs until December 22 and can be found here
Meanwhile, we were rather taken by this leaflet from energy giant EDF that dropped on to our doormat this week.
Fine, until MP's discover how many of their own tenanted properties would fall foul of the rule…

Another pop at the PRS by Labour that will make landlords, existing or potential, think twice about B2L so how does that help tenants when supply is already a major issue.
What's next? Forcing every owner to bring it up to C before they can sell?
And if it's that important and such a good idea, why doesn't it apply to the public rented sector as well?
Is it a) because the biggest concentration of council/HA property is likely to be in Labour constituencies b) because the biggest concentration of council/HA property is likely to be in Labour constituencies or C) because the biggest concentration of council/HA property is likely to be in Labour constituencies.

I live in a (modern) Victorian terrace house with a combi boiler, double glazing and loft insulation – and my EPC rating is E but is about efficient as it will ever be. Does that mean my house will be deemed as ‘uninhabitable’ for tenants???? Surely half of the countries rental stock would be in a similar position. Another great idea.

Yes NorthEastAgent, the direction of successive national governments is the myopia of trapping heat in hermetically sealed boxes. The fact that this leads to excessive moisture trapped inside / mildew / respiratory problems etc etc is currently lost on them.

Dear EDF
I believe you may well be infringing on a trade name of my creation and, will be bringing down the wrath of EasyProperty as well. Please cease and decist

Can't be achieved. Being an energy assessor and the current conventions used a "C" is next to impossible unless it is a new build and the associated costs for a really old property, stone or narrow/no cavity construction for example, is just laughable.
