EYE can today reveal a further dramatic development in the world of traditional estate agents.
First, Savills takes a stake in an online agent.
Now we can reveal that Jackson-Stops & Staff is considering a change of name.
It seems as though the firm might drop the “& Staff”.
EYE discovered the move when an email, below, came to our attention.
There has been nothing quite like it since Knight Frank handed Mr Rutley his P45.
Nick Leeming, chairman at Jackson-Stops & Staff, last night admitted to EYE: “We are currently conducting a survey of our contacts to gauge perceptions of our brand name and we will use the results of the survey to inform any decision as to whether to shorten the name in the future.”
The email sent by a member of Staff reads:
“Dear Applicant
We always value feedback from our contacts and I wanted to ask your opinion on some changes that we may be making.
As part of our future marketing strategy at Jackson-Stops & Staff we are considering a minor change to our name and I would be very grateful if you could spare a moment to complete a short questionnaire. In return for completing this your name will be entered into a draw to win a £500 John Lewis voucher. The closing date for entries is Friday 24th June 2016.
To respond to the survey, please click here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/B89RDBQ
Many thanks in advance for your help. With best wishes.”
* The survey asks respondents whether they think Mr Staff may be a present or former senior partner in the organisation. Or not.
EYE knows the answer, but what do you think?
And would you sack “Mr Staff”?
Don’t do it JSS. Hang on to something with an element of tradition in this crazy Change for change sake.
Refresh it it by all means. Look at Shell’s logo change over 100 years. It’s still a shell but modern.
Sacking “Staff” could initiate an unfair dismissal claim!!!!

I completely agree! As a Jackson-Stops myself, I think it would be a great shame to lose the “& Staff”. Although most people do not know it was a nod to my Great Grandfather’s staff.
Do they think it will make a difference to business? Apart from costing thousands for re-branding how will this benefit the firm?

I am a traditionalist and I like the brand they have made so say keep it.
What’s next a modern logo and calling yourselves JS? Nope stick with your roots.

I suspect that’s what most of the customers who received a survey said too!

Knight Frank and Rutley, FPD Savills, Hamptons and Sons, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Ernst and Young, National Westminster Bank, Snickers, British Home Stores…oops on that 1! Shell has gone the other way and is now in fact Royal Dutch Shell, but the market will call it what it wants!
It happens everywhere

Everyone refers to them as “Jackson Stops” anyway, so might as well drop the Staff.
