MPs call them fact-finding trips, whereas the NAEA has settled for “trade mission”.
However, there is no getting away from the fact that the NAEA’s trade mission to the sunshine state of Florida looks very jolly.
Of course we’re sure it will be hard work, too.
It won’t all be polo matches, beaches, golf, gala dinners and endless hospitality courtesy of the Florida Realtors Association. Although all these are mentioned on the itinerary.
And at £1,338 per person all included bar the odd meal for nine days, it sounds like a pretty good trade mission to us.
Pictured among the palm trees is the NAEA note that says: “Florida realtors will pay substantial referral fees to UK agents for contracts achieved with our UK buyers, with similar fees when their services are needed for the sale of UK-owned Florida properties.”
It just begs the question of whether this could be a two-way traffic.
How much do you think Florida realtors would pay for a “trade mission” to the UK that could conceivably take in the current investment hotspots of east London, Battersea, Hounslow and Slough? Throw in some British rain, and these places will of course look lovely.
