Winkworth Franchising today announces the appointment of Michael Stoop, its former managing director, as a consultant to the business with immediate effect – days after his final departure from the Property Franchise Group, still better known as Martin & Co.
Stoop returns to Winkworth after a remarkable 25-year break, in which he headed up – for 22 years – Xperience, the Legal & General franchising brand with well known brands Ellis & Co, Whitegates, Parkers and CJ Hole, which was sold to Martin & Co in 2014.
As part of that £6m deal, he was appointed managing director of the group.
Last August it was announced that he had retired from that role, but that he would continue as a consultant to the business until this June.
In his new role, he will work to help expand Winkworth’s franchise network.
Dominic Agace, CEO at Winkworth, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Michael back to Winkworth after 25 years. His experience in the industry, and particularly in franchising, is second to none. I have no doubt that he will add great value to our brand and help to drive Winkworth’s expansion into new and exciting areas nationally.”
Stoop began his career at Winkworth in 1976, and was the first to open a franchised Winkworth office in 1981, in Parsons Green, London.
He re-sold that office in 1988 to a new franchisee, before going on to become managing director of Winkworth between 1986 and 1992. He is also currently vice chairman of The Property Ombudsman as well as acting in an advisory and mentoring role for other property-related companies.
Stoop said: “It’s almost like coming home. I’m thoroughly looking forward to returning to Winkworth after such a long time away and hope to provide real value in helping to promote and expand its franchise proposal.
“We’re on the look-out for talented, experienced agents with in-depth knowledge of their local market to join our network of franchisees, so I’d like to invite these individuals to get in touch to find out more.”
No surprises that Michael Stoop never really ‘retired’. I doubt he ever will!
