Room-mates ‘dating website’ opens its doors to letting agents

A dating-style property website that matches flatmates based on their living interests has opened its portal for letting agents.

Ideal Flatmate, launched in January, lets private landlords list properties and users search for a room to rent, making suggestions of the most suited listings for their personality using an algorithm and a 20-question survey.

Letting agents in London will now be able to list rooms and properties for rent in the capital following a successful trial with 15 firms.

Packages start from £35 a month for multiple listings and the website will be targeting other university towns including Exeter, Bristol and Oxford, as well as Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

More than 2,000 landlords and 50,000 flat-seekers have already used the site.

The portal received financial backing in July from investors including the founder of estate agent Greene & Co David Pollock.

Tom Gatzen, co-founder of Ideal Flatmate, said: “We are excited to be launching an additional service for letting agents. The step was an obvious one to take for us after being inundated with requests over the previous few months from agents asking us for access to the site.

“With user numbers set to hit the 100,000 per month mark later this year, Ideal Flatmate is an exciting platform for landlords and agents alike to join the fastest growing flatsharing site in the UK.”

Gatzen said the business was in talks with a number of agencies and named Move the Flat, The Collective, Glint Estates and Oliver Stern as some of the users.
