Housing charities in Cheltenham and Nottingham have received £10,000 each from the Deposit Protection Service’s charitable donations fund.
Cheltenham Housing Aid Centre was founded in 1988 to provide free, independent housing advice to local people. Over the years the charity has developed a range of services to help some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the local community.
Framework is a registered charity and housing association that exists to tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness, and helps over 9,500 people each year across the east midlands and into South Yorkshire. The charity aims to prevent homelessness, stop rough sleeping and help people to live independent lives.
Framework will use the money to help formerly homeless people into quality independent accommodation, by subsidising rental costs.
This is the second set of awards from the DPS fund, with donations totalling £20,000 going to charities in West Kirby, Rochdale and Darlington in May.
DPS director Kevin Firth said: “The charities we gave money to last quarter are already telling us what a difference it’s made to them – and I am looking forward to seeing the same effect for CHAC and Framework.
“I live close to CHAC and it was great to be able visit the charity and see first-hand the work they do to help the homeless in the Cheltenham area.”
