Heartbreaking story behind agent’s fundraiser award

When Kathryn Hunter from Hawkmoth Property Consultants in Milton Keynes picked up her award for ‘Best Individual Fundraiser’ at this month’s annual Agents Giving ball, she was thinking of her brother who died ten years ago.

Kathryn, who set up her agency in April, received the award at the Lancaster Hotel in London in recognition of her tireless commitment to raising money for a range of charities including Cancer Research and The Oasis Project, which builds schools in the Gambia.

But the charity closest to her heart is MIND, for which Kathryn braved a sky-dive and the testing Three Peaks Challenge.

Kathryn said: “The award carried deep personal meaning to me because this year is the tenth anniversary of my brother’s death.

“Ollie committed suicide in August 2006, aged just 27, after battling with depression and mental illness.

“Fundraising has been a lot of hard work and I’ve done some scary challenges – some of which I definitely don’t want to repeat – but it’s all been worth it to raise money for charities like MIND.

“When I was presented with the award, I said to myself ‘This is for Ollie’.”
