Hatched founder Adam Day says he is taking a break – less than two years after sale to Connells

Mystery surrounds what may have happened at online agency Hatched.

Founder Adam Day was yesterday posting on his Linked In profile that he is “At Home”, and “Taking a break. Who knows how long”.

The likeable Day founded Hatched in April 2006.

It was acquired by Connells Group in November 2015.

Connells said at the time that Hatched “will bring complementary capabilities including first-hand knowledge and experience of this developing sector.  The acquisition is designed to expand Connells into towns and cities not currently covered by its existing estate agency operation and will see Hatched become an integral part of the Connells network.”

It stressed that Hatched wwould continue to trade under its existing brand with founder and managing director Day remaining in charge of operations.

The sum paid by Connells was described as “significant”.

Connells Group CEO David Livesey said at the time of the purchase: “The acquisition of Hatched represents a natural progression towards further enhancing our online proposition and wholly complements our strategy to expand our high street footprint.

“We are entirely committed to our branch network – evident through our recent acquisitions and our programme of 114 branch openings over the last 18 months – and I can confirm that this acquisition does not signal a shift away from traditional high street estate agency practices and values by Connells.”

Yesterday, we did ask Connells Group about the apparent departure of Day.

According to Connells annual report they bought a £400,000 stake in Hatched with a deal to pay £1.1m for further shares.

I’ve dealt with Hatched before many years ago on my property, Then when I heard Connells I thought it would be different and try and sell a different property…simply didn’t do the job I was excepting. The Operation Manger was so rude to me and was very unprofessional, Why is someone like that in charge, The viewings team are useless, can’t understand simple communication skills, Again simply rude with no manners at all and Why Connells got involved because they have no idea about Online Estate Agency what so ever and to what I heard they brought a guy in from Connells who has completely ruined the business, I’m not surprised why Adam has left because by the sounds of it the business is an utter shambles.

I have heard the complete opposite. A company that does some business for them told me that they’ve had a big increase in number of boards up, more houses sold and getting bigger premises somewhere. Can’t be all bad considering how many of the online guys are heading backwards!
