Happy Harrogate tops the tables once again

If you’re an agent in Harrogate the chances are you’re pretty content, as the north Yorkshire town has been named the happiest place to live in Great Britain for the third year running.

Rightmove’s annual Happy at Home index asked residents to rate their local area on 12 criteria, which were combined to produce a happiness score for 130 places across the country.

According to the index, released today, Harrogate residents feel safe, proud of their home and happy with the town’s general upkeep.

Shrewsbury takes second place and Ipswich third, while the people of Inverness, Llandrindod Wells and Richmond are happiest in Scotland, Wales and London respectively.

Rightmove’s  Miles Shipside said: “To come top of our Happy at Home index three years in a row is no mean feat, and we’ll be expecting a spike in people having a look on Rightmove to see what they might be able to afford to buy or rent in the Harrogate area.”

However, he added: “Anyone who is thinking of making a move there should bear in mind that property asking prices are higher than the national average, so perhaps it’s well worth a look at the below national average places of Shrewsbury and Ipswich, that make it into second and third place.”

Good news – These is a train service from Shrewsbury to Llandrindod Wells, or it is within a 75 minute drive, but it if you go there it has better scenery, excellent services (Tesco & Aldi), 18-hole golf course and one of the best bowls clubs in Britain.  You also get a warm welcome and superb value for money, eg a modern 3-bed, 2-bath, 2 reception bungalow with a 20′ kitchen for £180,000.
