Haart has removed some old images from a property listing following a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The complainant accused the estate agency, which is part of the Spicerhaart Group, of misleading consumers because they did not reflect the existing condition of the property.
Haart told the ASA that the old images used were selected from a previous listing to protect the privacy of the current tenant.
The ASA agreed to close the case after Haart committed to removing the old images and replacing them with new up-to-date photographs.
A spokesperson for the ASA said: “We received a complaint about an online property listing, seen on the Haart website. The complainant challenged whether the ad was misleading as the images used did not reflect the current state of the property.
“We approached the advertiser with the concerns that had been raised. They explained that the property was recently rented out and they had used images from a previous listing to protect the tenants’ privacy. The advertiser provided their assurance that the images would be removed until updates to the property had been completed.
“On that basis we considered the matter resolved.”
Where is the common sense here? Surely an agents note making it clear that the photos being used are prior to the current tenants moving in, should suffice?
