Property portal Rightmove is to hold two webinars on the thorny issue of GDPR later this month.
The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are due to become law on May 25 this year.
They will tighten up and increase the responsibilities on all businesses regarding their management and use of the data they hold.
Estate agency businesses will be affected thanks to the fact that they hold a large amount of data as “data controllers” on sellers, buyers, landlords, tenants, applicants for both sales and lettings.
Rightmove will run two live Q&A sessions for agents on the subject with data protection lawyer Matthew Holman of EMW Law LLP.
On February 27 at 9.30am, Holman will give a 15-minute overview of the new GDPR regulations, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A — an opportunity for agents to ask any specific questions they have about the impact the changes may have on their business.
On March 13 at 9.30am, Holman will talk specifically around the topic of marketing consent.
He aims to answer questions including:
- Will you still be able to market to your customers in May 2018?
- What consent do you need to get?
- Who can you pass data to?
The session will look in detail at what the law says and what this might mean for you, before opening the floor to questions.
