EYE NEWSFLASH: Michael Gove replaces Simon Clarke as housing secretary

Simon Clarke (right) is out as the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Secretary.

The now former prime minister Liz Truss appointed Simon Clarke as the Minister for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities last month.

He replaced Greg Clark, the MP for Tunbridge Wells, who held the position after Michael Gove was sacked by Boris Johnson on 7 July.

Writing on Twitter, Clarke said: “It has been a great privilege to serve as Secretary of State, working alongside some terrific people to level up our communities, just as it was before that as chief secretary at the Treasury.

“It has only been while holding these positions that I’ve come to appreciate the full weight of responsibility that ministers bear, and we are deeply fortunate to be supported in this by our civil servants and special advisers (and never forget them on days like today).”

His replacement has just been announced, with Michael Gove returning to the position.

It’s why we never see any real benefit for existing exploited leaseholders. Very convenient for the government’s wealthy freeholder donors. Well probably get Jenrick back! #NationalLeaseholdCampaign
