EYE NEWSFLASH: Connells Group boss quits after 35 years

David Plumtree

After over 35 years of service, David Plumtree has resigned as Connells Group chief executive (estate agency) and will leave the business at the end of June.

A well-respected figure within the industry, Plumtree started his career with the Group in 1988 as a negotiator in William H Brown’s Fakenham branch. As his career progressed he achieved success in a number of senior roles and has led the Group’s estate agency business since 2005.

“After celebrating 35 years it feels like the right time for me to step back.” said Plumtree. “I have been fortunate to have worked with some amazing people in Connells, and I leave the business knowing that the appetite to continue to drive the business forward is as strong as it has ever been, and I am excited to see how the Group continues to evolve.”

Richard Twigg, Connells Group interim CEO, commented: “On behalf of the Connells Group Board, I would like to thank David for his immense contribution to the Group. David has been instrumental in growing the business to become the UK’s leading estate agency, and we wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Twigg added: “I am pleased to announce that Ian Fry has been appointed as group chief executive (estate agency), with immediate effect.

“Ian, who has been with the business for 28 years, also started his career as a branch negotiator. He has already played a significant part in our success story, undertaking many roles and achieving great success at every level within the business. I am looking forward to working directly with Ian as we continue to develop the business and remain the dominant force in UK estate agency.”

Has someone been using AI to write their columns…?

Surely the following cannot be part of the original statement from Twigg?

I was wondering why that sentence about the suit and tie was included. It has since been removed from the article.

Seems it’s not only agents using ChatGPT. Journalists are using it too to write the news.

Thought your comment would come and be SHORT on gratitude. Fortunately it’s hidden amongst lots of rightful gratitude and praise for a truly remarkable individual. MULLET over Tim.

Very interesting that Skipton appointed a new C.E.O in 2022 and both David’s have now gone within a year of each other after having great success for years. He’s a great man and I wish him well in his next chapter.

I do hope Skipton are not interfering to much since there’s been changes at the top.

A truly inspirational leader who over the last 20 years has shaped not only the market leading Connells group, but the entire industry, It seems David has lead with humility and integrity which has created the benchmark for others to follow. I would suspect the legacy of David’s leadership is not only the market leading results, but, it is a talented leadership team that he leaves behind who are the next generation of successful business leaders within the Connells Group, who will now pick up the mantle. Best wishes in your next venture David!

Maybe the parent company Skipton being a highly regarded mutual in the sector is finally tiring of the bad press of some of the tactics employed by the Connells Group under Plumtree’s/Livesey’s stewardship. Definately looks like a clear out of the old guard and if so this can only be a good thing to improve standards in corporate agency.
