Estate agent banned from industry after appeal time expires

An estate agent has been banned from the industry.

It means that Sean Boggans will now no longer be allowed to work in estate agency.

There is currently nothing to stop him working in lettings, while the Housing and Planning Bill works its way through Parliament.

At the weekend, the official register of banned and warned agents was still showing the name of Sean Boggans as ‘subject to appeal’.

However, a  spokesperson for the regulator, the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team, told EYE on Friday: “Mr Sean Boggans was issued with a prohibition order under the Estate Agents Act.

“He had 28 days in which to appeal, which has now passed, so the order has come into effect.”

No other information was made available to EYE as to the identity of the banned agent.

The register, run by NTSEAT at Powys County Council, shows that the name was added to it in November.

An estate agent with the name of Sean Boggans was sent to jail in 2013 after a row over taxi cabs outside a pub ended in a single punch which killed a man.

Boggans, at that time aged 29 and of Brentwood, Essex, was given four years in jail.

Boggans told the court that he had been trying to hail passing cabs without success, and felt that Shaun McDermott had been staring at him.

Boggans claimed he threw a punch because he thought Mr McDermott might have been planning to stab him.

“When he put the threat to me I was worried for my own safety which was when I struck the blow,” said Boggans.

Boggans remained at the scene while a passer-by gave first aid but left the scene when police arrived. He was arrested two days later.

In evidence he told the court: “I have ruined so many lives with just one punch.”
