Sean Newman, head of Newman Estate Agents, has launched a new podcast and the first episode is available to view below.
The first self-promotional episode offers a personal insight into Newman’s life before he started in estate agency and when he entered the industry as a negotiator, aged 19, with Countrywide.
He talks about his time at Countrywide, and explains why he left the company, with a view to setting up his own estate agency business.
The recession in 2008 caused financial hardship, at which point he had to change his business model and give his staff the option to become self-employed.
Newman now has more than 100 self-employed Partner Agents and talks about the advantages and disadvantages of this model. He also discusses the attributes required to be a successful self-employed Agent.
The interview is carried out by Sean’s son Tyler Newman, 24, who has a property education business and is also a property developer.
Future episodes will include interviews with self-employed estate agents who explain their journey into estate agency, their experiences in corporate and independent companies.
Newman said: “Hopefully many estate agents will be able to relate to these stories and also see what life is really like as a self-employed estate agent.”
He argues that many estate agents either do not know about the self-employed model or do not fully understand it.
Newman added: “Many bosses will try to put their staff off the idea, however the reality is estate agency business owners, corporate or independent, should be very worried about their top lister or manager leaving to join one of the self-employed models.
“We are seeing the biggest ever change in the estate agency industry with more and more people becoming self employed estate agents. This a fantastic opportunity, not only to earn a life changing amount of money but also to raise the standards in estate agency.”
Well done Sean – blazing a trail as ever!
We can all learn so much from your story – thanks for sharing.

Not sure why this guy gets airtime when there are 1000s of other agents and their dog who have something similar or better but are never mentioned. I’m curious why a small handful of agents gets the VIP treatment on these platforms?

With no discourtesy Mr Smith, the editor of this free and extremely informative daily journal surely does his best to prepare and deliver across the board, honest and interesting posts.
I consider your comment to be unfair and ask how YOU would provide around 7 interesting features 5 days a week in a very contentious and volatile market place.
Methinks you’d struggle.

Hi MrSmith78 – I’m sure that if any of the “…1000s of other agents… who have something similar or better … ” ( which by definition must mean at least 2,000 agents! ) were to contact PIE with an interesting story to tell they would get coverage.

Perhaps PIE has run the story because Sean Newman is a well-known estate agent with a long and successful track record in the business. Do let us know your achievements MrSmith78.
