Agent tells of battle to clear his name

An estate agent cleared of assaulting a man in a row over a tenancy has spoken of his year-long battle to clear his name.

Richard Hall was first arrested 12 months ago following a spat which ended in him grabbing a baseball bat – an act he now admits was “impulsive and stupid”.

He was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

He was subsequently cleared of assault but admitted the possession charge and was sentenced to a 11-month suspended jail term at Liverpool Crown Court.

He became embroiled in the tenancy dispute after trying to help a local landlady resolve a problem at a property.

He said he had only been trying to help, and that the landlady – who had been advised by police to contact him – was not a client of his agency.

Hall has now told his local newspaper of “the worst 12 months of my life”:

A sad story. No doubt the existence of deposit dispute schemes has prevented many other disagreements from escalating to this sort of thing.

Grabbing a baseball bat from WHERE, exactly? Not usually he sort of thing I can just lay my hands on in an "impulsive and stupid" moment – which I freely admit to having in abundance…
