Estate agency continues to offer strong career opportunities across England. Almost 1,300 roles are currently being advertised despite a more subdued housing market.
Analysis commissioned by eXp UK identified an estimated 1,274 estate agency vacancies on recruitment website Reed. The figures suggest employers continue to recruit across the sector.
London offers the greatest number of opportunities. An estimated 413 positions were advertised within the search parameters used.
The capital accounts for almost a third – 32.4% – of all vacancies identified.
Birmingham ranks second, accounting for 7.6% of advertised roles. Manchester follows at 3.5%, with Bristol at 3.2%.
Nottingham accounts for a further 2.4%. Leeds represents 2%, Bradford 1.8% and Liverpool 1.6%.
The level of recruitment provides a positive signal for people considering a career in estate agency. It also highlights opportunities for existing property professionals looking to make their next career move.
The recruitment activity comes despite softer housing market conditions during 2026.
However, the figures provide a snapshot rather than a measure of total recruitment demand. The analysis only covers vacancies advertised on Reed.
It also does not show whether positions are newly created or replacement hires. Some may also be longstanding vacancies.
The research was produced by eXp UK, which operates a self-employed agency model.
Adam Day, head of eXp UK and Europe, said: “It’s somewhat surprising to see traditional estate agencies crying out for staff to this extent, particularly when the market itself has been operating at a more measured pace.”
Day suggested recruitment levels may also reflect changes in how estate agents choose to work. This includes the growth of self-employed agency models.
The analysis examined current estate agency vacancies advertised on Reed. Searches covered 15 major cities using the recruitment platform’s default 10-mile search radius.
