Shaun Whiter, the estate agent left for dead by a hit and run driver last July, is shortly to take on a 150-mile cycling challenge.

Shaun, 28, who had to have both legs amputated, will join 100 others in the two-day charity challenge around Suffolk.

He will be using a specially built hand bike, and plans to raise money for East Anglian Air Ambulance, which saved his life, plus various charities supported by Ipswich Town Football Club.

Shaun and his friend Joey Abbs received devastating injuries after Shaun went to help Joey change a flat tyre. Both men were wearing high visibility vests.

Driver Jan Adamec slammed into Shaun, pinning him against his car, while Joey was trapped between his own car and Shaun’s.

Adamec has been jailed for three years.

Shaun, who works for David Lee in Stansted, Essex, has shown inspirational positivity.

He has been walking for a month, although he had not expected to be able to use prosthetics until April at the earliest.

His next target is to walk unaided and without crutches when he marries fiancée Charlotte Way in July.

Friends and family raised over £120,000 to help Shaun and Joey, with both Ipswich and Newmarket football clubs organising a charity match.

Shaun told the local paper: “I feel I have come a long way already and that is due to the support of the amazing people I have around me and the people I have met along the way.”

He said the crash changed his life forever and that he could not have got through it without the support of the local football community, who along with his family and friends raised more than £120,000 for Shaun and Joey’s recovery.

He said: “Ipswich Town have given me the chance to get back into a team environment and along with the other 100 riders involved in the tour of Suffolk we can help raise money and awareness for two great charities.”
