A protest outside a lettings agent is said to have been organised for a new TV show.
Footage of the demonstration shows a comedian, Joe Lycett, and Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing in a protest ‘rave’ outside CPS Homes, in Cardiff.
The pair blasted out music from a makeshift DJ booth outside the branch, joined by students in the hour-long protest.
The demonstration was said to be against deposits allegedly being with-held and properties being entered without advance warning.
CPS Homes said the demonstration was disproportionate to the “nature and small number of complaints” it had received.
The protest is said to have been organised for the new C4 show ‘Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back’, where the comedian is described as fighting for the rights of consumers.
A CPS Homes spokesman said: “For more than 20 years, CPS Homes has successfully managed several thousand properties providing quality living accommodation for students and professionals in Cardiff.
“Our policy that tenants are present at their end of year inspection ensures transparency and we believe is the reason why we receive very few complaints.
“We have a rigorous complaints procedure and, if required, independent adjudication for deposit disputes is available via the deposit scheme provider.
“We believe that the rave which was organised outside our offices was disproportionate to the nature and small number of complaints.”
Brief footage of the protest can be seen here – and it certainly seems to be noisy
Meanwhile, another protest was held outside an agency in Lancashire.
Tenant trade union Acorn staged it outside Mighty House amid an ongoing dispute with a tenant regarding an alleged unfair rent charge.
Activists waved banners and chanted and some entered the premises.
But agency director and owner Peter Charnley said Acorn had mistakenly protested against Mighty House when the issue was with another business, Mighty Student Living.
Charnley said: “As agents, we carefully consider the wellbeing of our tenants and are careful to act within the law and furthermore at the instructions of the owner.”
A statement from Acorn said: “Acorn Lancaster and Morecambe did not block either the pavement or the entrance to Mighty House and aimed to ensure that the workers within the agency were not intimidated using peaceful protest at this action.
“Acorn Lancaster and Morecambe aims to improve the situation for renters through a rebalance of power in the tenant-landlord relationship.”
Just thugs.
