Connells has marked out its territory by claiming to be the largest agent in the UK measured by sales, as well as being the most profitable and with the most new instructions.
Connells Group yesterday said it was the most profitable estate agent after making £26.2m pre-tax profits in the first half of this year.
The number compares with the full year figure for 2018 of £56.9m.
Connells also said it sold 66,000 properties last year, claiming this was more than any other estate agent.
Its statement yesterday evening also said Connells Group has the largest market share of new instructions so far this year, after tracking competitor activity on Rightmove.
Connells Group estate agency chief executive David Plumtree said: “By combining traditional high street estate agency with the best people in the industry and the latest digital technologies, we are delivering both a great service to our customers and an environment for our branch teams to stand out from their competitors.
“Our clear and sustained market leadership shows that this is what the customer values.”
The statement did not mention by name any of Connells’ competitors, including Countrywide – still thought to be the biggest agent by branches despite closures – and Purplebricks, which has previously claimed to be the biggest by listings.
Connells shut down Hatched last autumn, saying it could not see the online business model as viable.
Excellent, keep it up.
It’s clear the For Sale By Owner / DIY operators like PB models just wont make profits anywhere near proper high street estate agents or any proper profits for many years.
