Charges against estate agent dropped but trial set for his business

All charges against the director of an estate agency have been dropped – but the case against the estate agency itself is continuing, with a trial due this summer.

Matthew Ilsley, of Meridian Estate Agents in Bournemouth, had been charged with 11 offences under the Unfair Trading Regulations.

All were withdrawn at Poole Magistrates. However, Bournemouth Council’s Trading Standards team has not withdrawn the charges against the company.

It is charged with five counts relating to false information; three of misleading omissions; and two of aggressive trading.

The last two counts allege that threats were made to withhold a buyer’s access to a property until a purchasing fee was paid.

The trial is due on June 10.

Meridien, which has a second branch in Parkstone, remains open.
