Business founded by 18-year-old university drop-out gears up for more expansion

A lettings firm started by an 18-year-old nine years ago is on course for expansion into a second city.

Marc Taylor launched Tay Letting in Glasgow after dropping out of university.

He is now planning to expand into Edinburgh and to mark his tenth year in business by managing over 1,000 properties.

Taylor said that he launched the business with no experience and at a time when the market was very poor.

He began by approaching Glasgow home owners whose properties had failed to sell, and offered to try and find them tenants instead.

“I knew that although I didn’t have experience, I could provide a first-class service and unrivalled care and attention,” he said.

The business grew as word spread, and today Tay also does white-labelled lettings work for high-end sales-only agents.

The firm currently manages over 700 properties in Glasgow, and Taylor says some of the clients have been with him from the start.

As well as Tay Lettings, Taylor co-founded block management firm Taylor & Martin with fellow director Michael Martin in 2013.
