Builder downgraded by analyst reports record order book

House builder Taylor Wimpey has reported that it is entering 2015 with a record order book.

The £1.3bn order book represents a pipeline of 6,601 homes.

Taylor Wimpey was among the biggest fallers last Friday after City analyst Jefferies lowered its rating from ‘buy’to ‘hold’.

The firm was one of 14 property businesses downgraded by the analyst and whose shares were subsequently hit.

Others included Zoopla, Rightmove, Countrywide and LSL.

Taylor Wimpey also reported that it sold 6% more homes last year than in 2013, at an average of 11% more: altogether it sold 12,454 homes, at an average of £234,000 for its private sales.

The firm yesterday said that it welcomed last month’s reforms of Stamp Duty Land Tax and that its outlook remained positive.

Taylor Wimpey was giving an update ahead of full year results on March 3.

Barratt Developments, whose shares also plunged after the Jefferies warning, updates the market tomorrow.
