Could anything capture the spirit of Christmas more than this?
This story of our times also offers a rather different take on letting agent fees and the low esteem in which the Government seems to hold agents.
Castledene, based in County Durham and which has featured prominently on television for its work with tenants on benefits, put up a post on Facebook about helping the homeless.
The post says that Castledene, headed by managing director John Paul, will waive all of its fees to any homeless people applying for a home.
It says: “We will pick you up, take you to the viewings, complete any paperwork on your behalf, and liaise with the council and any other organisation we need to in order to get a roof over your head in time for Christmas.
“If anyone knows of anyone sleeping rough please let them know about the offer. We are here to help. PLEASE SHARE.”
Remarkably, by Friday last week, the post had been viewed over 112,000 times and shared over 1,300 times.
As a result, 18 homeless people have so far been in touch with Castledene.
Perhaps even more remarkable is that so many people and businesses have also been in touch with the agency.
They include restaurants offering free Christmas meals, delivery firms, and others offering furniture and white goods.
John Paul told us: “We are a very community driven company and always strive to help those who need it most.
“We have rolled out this initiative for the last three years and had some great results.
“Last year we helped house five homeless people, three of whom still have tenancies with us, and the year before we helped house three, of whom two are still with us.
“So far we are on course to more than double the number of people we can house.
“People are on the streets for a variety of reasons, most of which are through no fault of their own.
“We at Castledene are in a very fortunate position to be able help those less fortunate and I feel it is a no-brainer that if we have the capacity to help, then we do so.”
Well done John, a fantastic gesture with excellent results 🙂
