Are you familiar with housing law coming into effect next month?

The Renting Homes (Wales) Act comes into effect on 1 December 2022 and will be one of the biggest shake-ups of Welsh housing law.

It will introduce significant changes for letting agents, landlords and tenants to the way homes are rented, managed, and lived in.

Propertymark is giving letting agents, both members and non-members, the opportunity to hear directly from Simon White, head of housing strategy for the Welsh government, at its latest free webinar at 12pm on 23 November.

White is in charge of implementing the changes and at the webinar he will go through them in detail and take questions.

Timothy Douglas, head of policy and campaigns for Propertymark, said: “The Renting Homes Act has been a long time coming and represents a major change to the way the rented sector operates in Wales.

“It will be a challenging transition and we look forward to giving agents the opportunity to hear directly from the Welsh Government. This will help them understand the changes and their new responsibilities and ask any questions they have.”

Poor Welsh people. This policy is unwarranted and has done nothing other than rename The Housing Act 1988 with all sorts of new fangled names that many do not understand or can relate to. It ‘principally’ is not replacing the current status quo with a few exceptions. What is has generated is a legal nightmare for landlords and form filling and scared so many that according to one Welsh MP, caused mass exodus from out of the market, exasperating a shocking lack of housing in Wales even more. Agents are reporting the cost to implement a law which basically is a Welsh rebranded name, is a fortune.
