Another council poised to introduce major licensing scheme

The London borough of Brent is the latest local authority on the brink of introducing a major licensing scheme.

Under proposals, to be discussed next week by Brent Council’s cabinet, the selective licensing scheme will apply across Harlesden, Willesden Green and Wembley Central.

The cost would be £350 for a five-year licence – compared with the charge of £500 in Newham.

If rubber-stamped, as expected, the scheme will come in on January 1, with applications for licences accepted from November.

The scheme, which was the subject of a consultation earlier this year, has the support of Shelter.
